Senior Ecologist

New opportunity is now available for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Senior Ecologist/Project Manager to join a Newcastle-based team delivering ecologically focused projects across the region.

This NSW environmental consultancy has a strong pipeline of work and is seeking someone who is passionate about ecology, shares their interest in meaningful stakeholder engagement, and is looking for ongoing career development in both technical leadership and project management within the environmental sector.

The Role

This position offers a great opportunity for an experienced ecology professional to contribute both technical expertise and project management skills within a supportive and growing team.
You will be responsible for:

  • Technical oversight of ecological assessments, ensuring quality and compliance
  • Management of project timelines, budgets, and deliverables across multiple sites
  • Mentoring and leading junior ecologists and contributing to a positive team culture
  • Leading stakeholder engagement with clients, consultants, and regulatory bodies
  • Contributing to business development, tender preparation, and strategic planning
  • Supporting BAM assessments, habitat evaluations, and other regulatory work

  
About You

We’re looking for an ecology or environmental professional with relevant experience who is comfortable working in a collaborative and growing organisation, and who brings the following attributes:

  • Background in ecology, environmental science, or related fields
  • BAM accreditation (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Strong working knowledge of NSW environmental legislation and planning systems
  • Experience in land development, town planning, or environmental project delivery
  • Highly developed report writing and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary projects with ecological components
  • A team player who contributes to a collaborative, solutions-focused culture

Experience in business development, expert witness work or tender writing is highly regarded.
